Transcripts and search

What a ticket transcript contains, why it stays readable, and how to find any past ticket.

The archive post

Every closed ticket gets a post in the archive channel. Its first line is plain text, for example:

Ticket #0042 · Support · lunar (481029384756102938)

Below that, a summary shows who opened it, who handled and closed it, when, how long it was open, the message count, anyone added, and the reason. The transcript file is attached to the post.

Because the username, user ID and ticket number are written out in plain text, Discord's own search finds the post by any of them.

The transcript file

The transcript is a single HTML file named like transcript-0042-lunar.html. Download it and open it in any browser; no internet connection is needed.

  • Header: ticket number, category, opener, handler, people added, open and close times, duration, reason, message count and the form answers.
  • Messages: grouped by author the way Discord groups them, with bold, italics, code blocks, quotes, links, mentions and custom emoji.
  • Images: embedded in the file itself, so they still show after Discord's attachment links expire. Other files under the size limit are embedded as downloads. Larger files are listed by name with their original link, which expires after a while.

Very long tickets keep their most recent 5,000 messages by default. When that happens, the transcript says so at the top. You can change the limit with /ticket-admin settings max-messages.

Finding a ticket

/ticket find is for staff, and works in any channel.
